Carol’s impressive gymnastics career began at Dr. Sinclair Gym Club in Surrey. She was there for 8 years and later trained at Phoenix and also Ruth Mueller in Port Coquitlam. When she was 12 Carol travelled to Romania where she attended a 3 week gym school. She received several awards – some were presented to her by Nadia Comaneci.

It was Carol’s dream to see a facility in Surrey where gymnasts of all levels could train. She realized her dream at Surrey Gymnastic Society where she coached young gymnasts. She felt very sad for the young Romanian gymnasts being sent away to gymnastics school at the age of 4 or 5 and did not see their parents for long periods of time. This is the reason Carol chose not to go to the States for further training. Family was most important.

Carol excelled in many things – from being a straight A student to an elite gymnast. She always expected the best from herself and accepted nothing less. She was a true model for the young gymnasts she taught. They adored her and she adored them. Carol believed that there were many competitions for Elite level gymnastics and not enough for those who had not yet reached that level, or perhaps never would.

Carol’s memory lives on in many ways: the Carol Lenz Memorial being one of them. Surrey Gymnastic Society continues to make a mark in gymnastics – and in keeping Carol’s legacy alive. In Carol’s memory may each gymnast here today strive for the best and always reach for their dreams.
